      Hi Sirius

Yes, definitely suitable for a newbie.

Won’t take too long to identify qualifiers each day using Racing Post or Sporting Life (or your preferred racing wesbite)

Then all you would need is a betfair account to back the qualifiers at Betfair Starting Price.

      Very straight forward!

      Hope that helps

Nice piece of analysis Kieran, and particularly refreshing (and I hope profitable) focusing on more ‘under the radar’ targets away from the usual suspects. I will use it as a very useful adjunct to my own selection processes to hopefully identify some high value bets. Thank you very much for your efforts in producing this.

      Reply Reply November 25, 2021

      Hi John

It’s a good question and there is no doubt that strike rates and profits for the angles could be improved if you were to focus on particular courses. However, I’m a believer that if you apply to many filters to data, the sample can end up too small to be significant and you are in danger of back fitting.

I decided to leave it where it is because all of the conclusions I drew from the research are supported by reasonable size data samples.

Thanks again for your feedback – it is very much appreciated.

    Hi Kieran

Very interested in your guides and videos so firstly, thank you for taking the time to provide the content. Couple of things I’m interested in which you will hopefully cover at some point.

    1. Do you have any stats on backing certain prices each way? I wonder if, let’s say, backing anything over 7/1 for 0.5 points each way would be more profitable long term or if it just protects the bank short term.

    2. I agree with the points on value and something I am looking forward to in future content is making the right selections. I appreciate what value means, but to me if something should be a 66/1 shot but is priced at 250/1, the value is great but it is still very unlikely to win so backing these all the time would seem crazy. Im sure there are value picks every day but I’m sure your machine won’t just throw up anything.

    Regards

    Adam

      Reply Reply December 3, 2021

      Hi Adam

      Thanks for your perceptive comment.

I do have some stats for backing each way on the selections identified by The Value Machine and I will be making those full available at some point when have time to get them properly formatted and analysed. From a glance at what I have though, I would tentatively say that backing each way would be less profitable backing 0.5 pts each (as opposed to 1 pt win) but would be more profitable backing 1 pt each way (as opposed to 1 pt win) across pretty much all price ranges above 5/1.

That would lead me to conclude that there is substantial value in both the win and place parts of the bet.

Hope that helps and many thanks for your comment!

      best,

      Kieran

      Hi Again Adam

Just realised I didn’t address your 2nd question, apologies.

You are absolutely right – while value can be found in many places, it is vitally important to strike a balance between a decent level of value and a realistic chance of winning. My favourite scenario would be if I could bet horses that should be 1.10 at 1.20 all day. I would be betting very big and very often!

The Value machine is completely customisable – you can decide the highest price selections you want to be found based on your attitude to risk and the size of your betting bank.

      best,

      Kieran
